Mayor's Proclamation/Bush Letter Presented July 2nd

Mayor Jason Thompson will deliver a proclamation to each of our Cold War (1975-1991) Veteran Grand Marshals at the "Proud to Be An American" Lake Freeman Boat Parade and Celebration at the Park.

Along with this proclamation, Mayor Thompson will present a moving commemorative letter from the Former United States President George Herbert Walker Bush.  Following the attacks on Pearl Harbor in 1941, at the age of 18, Bush postponed going to college and became the youngest aviator in the US Navy at the time.

Bush primarily participated in operations within Pacific Theatre in the Philippines. Through 1944, he flew 58 combat missions for which he received the Distinguished Flying Cross, three Air Medals, and the Presidential Unit Citation.

Before becoming the 41st President of the United States, Bush previously served as the 43rd Vice-President of the United States (under President Reagan), a congressman, an ambassador, and the Director of the Central Intelligence Agency.  Former President Bush is currently retired, living in Houston, Texas and Kennebunkport, Maine.  Bush is a staunch supporter of our Veterans (Wikipedia, George HW Bush)
